According to official Army morning reports, Mr. Stahlman ( serial number 12220396), was in training at Camp Gordon, Ga. in August, 1944 with the 10th Armored Division, 61st Armored Infantry Bn., Co.A. His discharge papers and the 10th Armored reports indicate that he departed the United States on Sept. 12, 1944 with the 10th Armored...landing at Cherbourg, France on Sept. 23, 1944. He was wounded on Dec. 19th in Luxembourg, hospitalized for approximately one month and returned to the 61st Armored Inf. Bn./Co. A on January 31st. He was assigned to the 2nd Reinforcement Depot on August 14, 1945 from the 61st/Co.A. According to the October 19, 1945, 357/F morning report, he was assigned to the 90th from the 317th Infantry, presumably by way of the 2nd Reinforcement Depot. According to the Dec. 12, 1945, 357/F morning report, the unit departed Marseilles, France for New York City, arriving in the USA on Dec. 28th. He was discharged on Jan. 6, 1946. Unfortunately, I cannot find anything in official Army reports that indicate Mr. Stahlman landed with "Roosevelt's Division" at Utah Beach or having served with the 359th. Please feel free to contact me with any additional information if my research is incorrect.
