I am a volunteer with the Veterans History Project,(www.loc.gov/vets), and am assisting a documentary film maker from Slovak Republic Public TV. He is looking for members with Slovak roots or who were born there but who also served in the US military during the last months of the war in 1945. I have some names- Steve M. Havran; William J. Mola; Alexander J. Mate, John Raymond Rossik. There may be more but these men were identified as 90th members. Many others do not note the unit with whom they served just infantry.
The director will be in DC and PA in March so I am trying to do as much leg work as I can before then to help him. Any information you can offer is appreciated.
Thank you for your service. |

My dad was in Pilsen with the anti tank company of the 359th infantry regiment. His name was Rolland Mitchell PFC. If you have any information on the 359th I would appreciate hearing from you.quote: Originally posted by colorsarge

| My family is of Czech (Bohemian) descent, so I don't know if this qualifies, but my Uncle Bob Krob (B Co, 359th IR) was in Czechoslovakia toward the end of the war. Bob passed away in 1991, but his twin brother, my grandfather Norbert, served in the 778th Tank Battalion, which was stationed in Ceske-Budejovice (Budweis) after VE Day. They both spoke their native tongue well enough to communicate with the locals. |
